I've finally located Martin Brown and his father and several brothers in the 1860 census, in or near the town of St. Marks, Florida - just a few miles north of the Apalachee Bay of Florida, south of Tallahassee. All the birthdates and names of the boys are correct, and the father is listed as John Brown.
Using this information, and with more research, it is likely that this John Brown is the same John Brown who is listed as marrying Mrs. Margaret Robson in Wayne County, Georgia December 23, 1829.
It could also be that John Brown, born 1783 of South Carolina, a Methodist Minister, is the father of John Brown, born 1810. He also has a son named Martin.
